Scalp Micropigmentation

The look of denser hair with zero downtime.

What is scalp micropigmentation (SMP)?

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical, semi-permanent procedure that replicates the appearance of shaved hair by implanting pigment into the superficial layer of the scalp’s dermis. It offers a natural-looking solution for concealing scars, creating the illusion of greater density, or simulating a shaved head in cases of advanced alopecia.

SMP can be applied both to the recipient area (after a hair transplant, to enhance the perception of density) and to the donor area (where follicles were extracted, to provide a more uniform appearance). This technique represents an effective therapeutic option for restoring balance and improving hair aesthetics without surgery.

Benefits of scalp micropigmentation

Treatment protocol

This technique is typically performed over 2 to 3 sessions, with each session lasting approximately 1 hour for smaller areas, for a gradual and natural effect. For larger areas, the procedure may take additional time.

The technique reaches a depth of between 0.25 and 1.75 millimeters into the skin, which allows the desired appearance to be achieved without damaging the scalp.

Post-procedure care and results

Once the process is complete, the scalp may become slightly irritated or inflamed due to the use of needles, but this is nothing to worry about. After a few hours, the scalp should return to normal.

It is also possible for some pores to expel a small amount of excess pigment, but this will not affect the final result.

Ideal candidates

  • Individuals with advanced or total alopecia.
  • People with localized thinning or low-density areas.
  • Patients looking to camouflage scars or enhance a previous transplant.
  • Those who want a shaved-head appearance with defined hairlines.

FAQs

Before undergoing the treatment, you will need to follow certain guidelines provided by the clinical team. These may include avoiding alcohol consumption and not taking blood-thinning medications, among other specific care instructions.

Yes. Although the causes of hair loss can vary between men and women, scalp micropigmentation is an effective solution for both. The treatment helps conceal bald spots and enhance aesthetic appearance by creating the look of increased hair density.

Scalp micropigmentation is generally painless and does not usually require anesthesia. However, in some cases, local or topical anesthesia may be used to ensure maximum comfort.

Not necessarily. The frontal hairline design is adapted based on gender and the desired outcome, as aesthetic preferences and patterns may differ between men and women.

Yes. It is not necessary to shave your hair for the procedure, even in cases of scarring or partial hair loss in specific areas. The treatment can be performed without altering hair length.

While most people are satisfied with their micropigmentation, if for any reason you decide it’s not right for you after the procedure, there’s no need to worry – it can be reversed. The process can be undone using laser technology that removes the pigment marks. This removal procedure typically requires topical or local anesthesia and is generally easier than tattoo removal, as micropigmentation only penetrates the epidermis, not the deeper layers of the skin.
