How is the hair transplant performed?
Hair transplant is a process that has evolved throughout the time. It is a method that requires a number of well-defined steps, where several aspects have to be taken into account. Aspects to be taken into consideration:
– Hair is obtained by extracting follicular units from donor areas of the patient’s scalp.
– Since it is the patient’s own hair, there is no risk of rejection of the hair transplant.
– Throughout the procedure, the specific characteristics, needs, aspect and features of each person are considered.
– All the procedure is performed with local anesthesia, so it is painless.
It is a meticulous procedure by which we obtain individual, double, triple or more follicular units, which contain one, two, three or more hairs, depending on the specific needs of the case.
When the extraction is performed by an experienced clinical team, the follicular units are not damaged, cicatrization is completed in 3/4 days and there are no visible scars left.
During the hair grafting procedure, there are two different stages: the extraction phase and the implantation phase. At the extraction stage follicular units are extracted, and at the implantation stage they are inserted in the desired area.
Extraction Stage
After the anesthesia, there is a period of 2 or 3 hours to collect follicular units one by one. Units to be extracted are selected leaving a minimum distance between extraction points. These follicular units are carefully manipulated and evaluated, and those damaged are discarded because they are not viable for the transplant procedure.
Implantation Stage
In this stage, we implant all the healthy follicular units obtained in the previous stage. The implantation process is carefully calculated, taking into account hair three-dimensional interrelation.
The final natural look of the transplant, especially of the front scalp insertion line, depends basically on this stage.
