What is hair transplant?

Hair transplant is a meticulous procedure whereby follicular units from the donor area (the back and sides of the head) are placed in the desired areas (front and crown). This procedure requires a trained and efficient team of doctors and nurses. Hair transplant is the most effective procedure to treat baldness. It is important to highlight that Insparya uses the most sophisticate technology, it invests in ongoing learning and training programs and it is committed to research, together with the most prestigious science and technology institutions.

At Insparya, a hair transplant clinic in Madrid and Marbella, we pride ourselves on having a medical team with extensive experience in hair transplants, which is a pioneer in the FUE technique, an effective, safe and innovative hair transplant process.

The clinical team, coordinated by Dr. Carlos Portinha (member of the ISHR) is formed by professionals with extensive experience in this area, accredited by the most prestigious institutions in the world, both in the clinical and research areas. An example is our research team in the field of hair transplant with mother cells.

An image is often worth a thousand words, therefore, it is the best way to see the great results that can be achieved with this advanced technique without damaging the donor area.

It must be taken into account that each case is different and different factors have to be considered, such as:

Since there are several causes of hair loss, the patient’s particular situation must be assessed by a trichologist and, based on such assessment, the best treatment is decided. As a general rule, hair loss is solved with a hair transplant, which is the most effective option.

How is the hair transplant performed?

Hair transplant is a process that has evolved throughout the time. It is a method that requires a number of well-defined steps, where several aspects have to be taken into account. Aspects to be taken into consideration:

– Hair is obtained by extracting follicular units from donor areas of the patient’s scalp.
– Since it is the patient’s own hair, there is no risk of rejection of the hair transplant.
– Throughout the procedure, the specific characteristics, needs, aspect and features of each person are considered.
– All the procedure is performed with local anesthesia, so it is painless.

It is a meticulous procedure by which we obtain individual, double, triple or more follicular units, which contain one, two, three or more hairs, depending on the specific needs of the case.

When the extraction is performed by an experienced clinical team, the follicular units are not damaged, cicatrization is completed in 3/4 days and there are no visible scars left.

During the hair grafting procedure, there are two different stages: the extraction phase and the implantation phase. At the extraction stage follicular units are extracted, and at the implantation stage they are inserted in the desired area.

Extraction Stage

After the anesthesia, there is a period of 2 or 3 hours to collect follicular units one by one. Units to be extracted are selected leaving a minimum distance between extraction points. These follicular units are carefully manipulated and evaluated, and those damaged are discarded because they are not viable for the transplant procedure.

Implantation Stage

In this stage, we implant all the healthy follicular units obtained in the previous stage. The implantation process is carefully calculated, taking into account hair three-dimensional interrelation.

The final natural look of the transplant, especially of the front scalp insertion line, depends basically on this stage.

What is the price of hair transplant?

That is probably what everyone who suffers from hair loss and is considering transplant is wondering. It is a very simple question but the answer is not that simple. We have always heard that prices in Turkey are really low (due in part to the fact that the country decided to promote this sector), but it is necessary to consider that there are pros and cons.

If you are considering going from Spain to Turkey, you are certainly wondering: “How much is hair transplant in Turkey?” It is important to remember that we should think in every aspect that will be essential for the final result. Don’t be misled by a low price because a bad hair transplant, an infected graft or simply inadequate postoperative care may be fatal.

Additionally, the price of hair transplant in Spain varies significantly due to the competition, quality and productivity levels achieved in this area.

The price of hair transplant is not easy to define because a prior medical assessment is necessary to determine the type of alopecia, the viability of the transplant based on the donor area, hair density, any pathologies, age, gender, etc. However, we may say that the price is around €5,000.

What is the postoperative stage like?

Hair grafting requires postoperative care, where a number of procedures must be carefully carried out in order to obtain the best results possible after the surgery. Some things that need to be done are:

– Rest as much as possible

– Do not wash your hair the first three days

– Spray the implanted area with sodium chloride every 20 minutes during the first days

– From the fourth day, wash in order to remove the scabs formed after the hair transplant.

In our post What is the postoperative stage of hair transplant like? We provide more information on the steps that you have to follow to have a full hair.

How long do hair grafts last?

Every future patient is concerned about this, but there is nothing to worry about. After the surgery, more than 95% of the follicular units manage to remain in the scalp and, since they are genetically predisposed to resist, like follicular units in the donor area, they will remain in our heads indefinitely. Of course, good care of the scalp and hair will strengthen it and prevent hair from falling out. Applying hair treatments may also be very useful for such purpose.

What is the best age to get a hair transplant?

Almost any time of adult life may be a good time to have a hair transplant, but it is more usual from 30-40 years old. This is due to a number of reasons.

Mainly because patients who will suffer from severe hair loss in the future start to experience the first signs of alopecia around that age. At 30 years old, continuous hair loss starts to stabilize (if there is alopecia) and it is a good time to consider having a transplant.

Besides, at this age, you are young enough to have an important donor area and that is an important advantage.

What is the purpose of hair?

If you are considering whether or not to get a transplant, because you think hair serves an aesthetic purpose, remember that hair also has a protective function. Although hair makes our features look longer, it gives us personality, it makes us feel good about ourselves and it gives us confidence to relate to others, it also serves a basic biologic protective function.

It covers our scalp from weather factors such as sun rays, rain, strong wind, etc., especially from the sun, whose ultraviolet rays could cause problems such as skin cancer.
